Sharanfx Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 I havnt had my Sharan Vr6 for long, but was wondering if any of you with MK1 V6's (VR6) could tell me at what temprature your electric cooling fans kick in and if they both come on at the same time. Mine only seems to kick in when the needle rises past the middle and onlt the righthand fan comes on. Do they both come on at the same time? If so I need to check my second fan. Thanks Quote
GSMGuy Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 Fan(s) WILL run if your aircon is on - regardless of engine temp... Mike Quote
Sharanfx Posted April 27, 2005 Author Report Posted April 27, 2005 My main concern is that Ive never seen the right fan run and if they both should come on together? The right one (drivers side) comes on fine with the A/C and cooling etc. Quote
galaxychap Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 As taken from the Volkswagen VR6 Engine pocket mechanic manual A temp switch is fitted into the L.H side of the bottom radiator water tank to actuate the two-stage cooling fan. At a temp of 92c to 97c the first stage of the fan comes into operation(half speed). The second stage switches on when the temp of the coolant has reached 99c to 105c So it looks like you could have a faulty switch. seatkid Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 I vaguely recall that some twin fan VAG models, the 2nd fan is driven by a toothed belt from the first fan.... Quote
Sharanfx Posted April 27, 2005 Author Report Posted April 27, 2005 The Sharan has two motorised fans, Ive only ever noticed one come on. Someone with a V6 must know if they both fire up at the same time? Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 Next time I see my Galaxy I'll take a look  Quote
Guest MATT Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 I know mines a TDI (ha) but mine heats up to 90C and stays there. What i thought was, can you swap the connections on the fans, so the one that does come on is connected to the one that doesn Quote
Sharanfx Posted April 28, 2005 Author Report Posted April 28, 2005 Connectors are too short and I didnt want to go through the hassel of taking all the front end off, if the second fan comes on at a higher temp which it hasn't been met under normal operating conditions. there is not a lot of room on the VR6 to get the fans off. Guest stevebm1 Posted April 29, 2005 Report Posted April 29, 2005 mine both come on together so it sounds like one of yours is faulty or has a lose wire Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 Both mine come on together as well, they came on when the needle hit inbetween the O and R mark, they also both come on when the AC is switched on Quote
Sharanfx Posted May 6, 2005 Author Report Posted May 6, 2005 Thanks guys will have to check it all out. Quote
Vince Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 Does anyone know how easy it is to get the fans off on a VR6? I have a dead fan on my V6 Ghia X, Elaswin says to drop the radiator and all sorts of pumps. Can you get to the bottom bolts without all this work? Vince. Quote
jvernon Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 My fans appear to be working the same as yours Sharanfx and I have a V6. The lower fan (the one on the right, as if you were looking at them from in front of the car) comes on when the aircon is on and the second one has never come on as far as i know yet the temperature always stays in the normal zone. I would appreciate if you can let me know what happens with yours, Regards,James Quote
